Privacy Policy

Hurry Up and Date LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Vet Connect mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: Email address and encrypted password when you register.

Profile Information: Display name, age, military branch, bio, photos, location, what you’re here for (friends, networking, mentoring, benefits help, business), and — only if you opt into Dating — gender, dating preferences, a dating bio, and an optional self-reported VA disability rating. Dating fields are shown only to other members who have also opted into Dating.

Service History: Units, duty stations, and years served that you add. These place you in unit rooms and let us show who served where you did. They are visible to other members.

Community Content: Messages, posts, comments, votes, GIFs, and announcements you create in rooms, unit rooms, events, and 1:1 chats; and blocks and reports you file.

Events: Events you RSVP to or apply for, answers you give on an application (for example, mobility or dietary needs you choose to share), waitlist position, and host check-ins. Your RSVP is visible to other attendees unless you hide it; event hosts always see the full roster and your application answers.

Organizations: Organizations you follow, and — if you administer one — what you post and host on its behalf.

Usage Data: Swipe history and matches (Dating only), connection requests, and interactions with notifications.

Device Information: Device tokens for push notifications, IP address for rate limiting and security.

Location Data: Approximate geographic coordinates (only when you grant permission) for distance-based matching.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account
• To connect you with veterans who served where you did, and with people, rooms, events, and organizations that match what you’re here for
• To run event signups: capacity, waitlists, host review of applications, reminders, and check-in
• To deliver messages, announcements, and notifications
• To enforce our community guidelines and prevent abuse
• To improve and maintain the service

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these cases:

• Other users: Your network profile is visible to other Vet Connect members; your Dating profile only to members who also opted into Dating
• Event hosts: When you sign up for an event, the hosting organization’s administrators and named organizers see your name, photo, status, check-in, and any application answers. They may use this to run the event (headcount, accommodations, safety). Vet Connect does not control what hosts do with it; see their own policies.
• Service providers: Cloud hosting (Railway), image storage (Cloudinary), email (SendGrid), push notifications (Firebase), GIF search (Tenor)
• Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect safety

4. Data Security

We protect your data with:

• Encrypted passwords (bcrypt hashing)
• SSL/TLS encryption for all connections
• JWT-based authentication with token expiration
• Rate limiting to prevent abuse
• Input validation and sanitization

5. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

You have the right to:

• Access: Export all your data from Settings > Privacy > Export My Data
• Delete: Delete your account and all associated data from Settings > Account > Delete Account
• Rectify: Update your profile information at any time
• Object: Block users or disable notifications

6. Data Retention

We retain your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, service history, messages, posts, comments, votes, event signups, and follows are permanently removed via cascading database deletion. Content you posted that others replied to (a comment in a thread, for example) is blanked and shown as deleted so the conversation around it still makes sense. Event attendance counts that hosts have already recorded are retained in aggregate without your identity.

7. Age Requirement

Vet Connect is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
